These New Puritans – A Season In Hell
These New Puritans have unleashed “A Season In Hell,” the latest offering from their forthcoming album “Crooked Wing,” set for release on May 23rd via Domino Records. The single follows previously released tracks “Bells” and “Industrial Love Song” (the latter featuring Caroline Polachek), building anticipation for the band’s first album in six years.
Jack Barnett describes the track’s ambitious composition as featuring “two pipe organs, two sopranos, and two hundred drums,” creating a soundscape inspired by surprisingly visual origins. “When I was writing it, images of vast, inhuman machinery kept coming into my head – enormous chains, pulleys, grinding gears, molten iron. Huge machines driving into the centre of the earth,” Jack explains. This industrial fever dream found its artistic parallel when he discovered Piranesi’s 18th-century etchings of “imaginary prisons,” which captured perfectly the mental imagery driving the composition.
The band will support the release with a special performance at EartH in London on June 12th, followed by a newly announced UK and European tour running through October and November 2025.
